Friends of the hshc drive.
Once again we need your help. Every year the cost of operations increases, and sadly the numbers of homeless animals stays steady. It takes both time and money to keep these animals safe and healthy. By becoming a Friend of the HSHC, you are sharing your voice and love for the cause. Your continuing support helps to ensure these companion animals have the chance to find their furever homes. The money you share is appreciated, and the value is immeasurable.
Your contribution to the Friends of the HSHC Drive not only provides you with a tax free contribution to support the cause, but also gets your our quarterly newsletter to keep you informed of our efforts and events. |

We want to thank Colombo Law for their generous support. They have offered to sponsor one cat and one dog each month at the shelter.

Partners in Education
In the Partners in Education program, the HSHC partners with local schools. The HSHC provides humane education classes for all ages on topics such as Dog Bite Prevention, the benefits of Spaying and Neutering, and the links between domestic and animal abuse. In exchange, the schools step-up to provide the shelter with food, litter, cleaning supplies, and other goodies for the animals.
In 2008, Bridgeport Middle School jump-started the year with a food and supply drive that required numerous trucks and SUVs to transport all of the supplies. The school also raised over $1,000.00 in cash. Salem Elementary soon caught on and raised $700.00. Washington Irving Middle School, Norwood Elementary School, RCB High School, and Wee Care Day Care had wonderful collection drives as well. Liberty High School also joined in and collected and delivered hundreds of pounds of kitty litter and other supplies. A few schools even collected cash for the pets available for adoption.
In addition to the Partners in Education program, in April of 2008 Salem Elementary began their "Read to a Shelter Dog" program with the HSHC. The program increases adoptability and helps the students brush up on their reading skills.
If you would like to partner your school with the HSHC, please contact us by e-mail or call (304) 592-1600.
