Volunteer

How You Can Help

The success of HSHC's mission relies heavily on volunteers. Our volunteers do everything from caring for the animals, to assisting our staff in adoption counseling, to matching adopters to the perfect pet.

We are always looking for volunteers. Here are some specific areas where we need the most assistance:

  • Dog Walking: By providing basic exercise and much needed human contact, dogs will be happier and more likely to be adopted.

  • Cat Care: Just by providing socialization through human contact and cage cleaning, you can raise a cat's chances at being adopted. All they need is a little TLC.

  • Foster Care: Involves providing specialized care in your own home for pets not yet weaned, who require medical help, or simply some tender loving care. Not all animals adjust to the shelter. Others need a break after living at the shelter for a few weeks.

  • HSHC Thrift Store: Requires sorting incoming items and selling merchandise to raise funds for the shelter. Items range from gently-used clothes to household accessories and furnishings.

  • Fundraising Events: Involves participating in community events and fundraisers either as part of a planning committee or day-of-event needs. All fundraisers require volunteers to be successful.
